FileSnap Docs by Roam — Support

A short page. We're a small team, and FileSnap Docs is designed to be the kind of app you don't need much support for. If something's wrong, email us — we read every message.

Common questions

Where do my documents go?

They live on your iPhone, in FileSnap Docs's private app storage. They are not uploaded anywhere — there is no FileSnap Docs server. If you have iCloud Backup enabled in iOS Settings, your documents are included in that backup along with the rest of your phone's data.

How do I move my documents to my computer?

Tap a document → tap the share button (top right) to share it via AirDrop, Mail, the Files app, or any other share-target. For a batch, use the toolbar export button on the home screen — multi-select documents, set a password, and you'll get an encrypted ZIP bundle to share.

Why does the OCR sometimes get the issuer or type wrong?

OCR on photos of paper documents is hard. Crumpled, faded, low-light, or unusually formatted documents can be misread. The Confirm screen lets you correct any field before saving — your edit replaces the auto-detection. If a particular issuer is consistently misread (a government department, a recurring insurer), email us a sample and we'll improve it.

Can I scan multi-page documents?

Yes. Open the camera, capture page 1, capture page 2, and so on. Tap Done when finished. You'll be prompted to confirm the document fields, then choose PDF (single multi-page file) or JPG (one file per page) when saving.

How do expiry reminders work?

When you save a document with an expiry date (or add one later), the detail view shows an Add expiry reminder button. Tap it, pick how far in advance you want to be reminded, and FileSnap Docs creates a calendar event in your default iOS Calendar. You'll get a notification when the event fires. The event lives in your calendar — not on our server (we don't have one).

If you don't grant Calendar permission, the reminder feature is unavailable but everything else works normally.

What's the encrypted ZIP export?

When you need to share a set of documents securely (e.g. with an accountant or a family member), use the toolbar export button:

  1. Multi-select the documents.
  2. Enter a password (twice).
  3. Tap Export.

You get a .zip.enc bundle. The recipient needs FileSnap Docs (or, in a future update, a standard ZIP-compatible AES tool) and the password to decrypt it. We don't see the password and we can't recover it. If you forget it, the bundle is unrecoverable.

Does FileSnap Docs need an internet connection?

No. Everything happens on your iPhone. Airplane mode is fine.

Is there a subscription?

No. FileSnap Docs is a one-time purchase. You own it. Future updates are included.

How do I rename existing documents after changing the filename pattern?

Settings → File Naming → change the preset → tap Yes, rename existing when prompted. FileSnap Docs will run through your archive and re-name every file using the new pattern. An audit log is saved alongside your documents so you can see exactly what was renamed.

Can I write my own filename pattern?

Yes. Settings → File Naming → choose Custom → use tokens like {date}, {issuer}, {title}, {type}, {tags} in the order you want.

What about iPad?

The app supports iPad. iPhone is currently the primary surface; if you have iPad-specific feedback, email us.

I lost my data after reinstalling. Can you help?

If you deleted the app, iOS removed its data. The only way to recover is from an iCloud or Finder/iTunes backup taken before the deletion. Because we don't have a server, we can't restore your archive remotely — that's the trade-off for keeping everything private.

Is there a Mac, Android, or web version?

Not at this time. iPhone (and iPad) only.

Reporting a bug

Email ben.lewis@roamhpu.co with:

  1. What you were doing when it happened.
  2. What you expected to happen.
  3. What actually happened.
  4. Your iOS version and iPhone model (Settings → General → About).
  5. The FileSnap Docs version (Settings → bottom of the page, when implemented; otherwise just say "latest").

If a particular document is mis-parsed, attach a redacted copy. We treat every report as a chance to make the OCR smarter.
