Common questions

Where do my receipts go?

They live on your iPhone, in ReceiptSnap's private app storage. They are not uploaded anywhere — there is no ReceiptSnap server. If you have iCloud Backup enabled in iOS Settings, the receipts are included in that backup along with the rest of your phone's data.

How do I move my receipts to my computer?

The easiest way is the in-app share/export action on a receipt or batch. You can also restore an iCloud or Finder/iTunes backup to a new device, and your archive comes with it.

Why does the OCR sometimes get the amount or vendor wrong?

OCR on small, crumpled, or low-light receipts is hard. The Confirm screen flags any field the parser couldn't anchor with high confidence using a yellow marker. Tap the field and edit — your edit replaces the auto-detection. If you see the same vendor consistently misread, email us a sample (with anything sensitive blacked out) and we'll improve it.

Does ReceiptSnap need an internet connection?

No. The OCR runs on your iPhone using Apple's Vision framework. The app has no networking code. Airplane mode is fine.

What permissions does ReceiptSnap ask for and why?

Camera — to snap a paper receipt.
Photos — only when you pick a receipt photo to import. We don't enumerate or scan your library.
Location — optional, used only to suggest the local currency on the Confirm screen. You can deny this and set the currency manually.

You can change any of these in iOS Settings → ReceiptSnap.

Is there a subscription?

No. ReceiptSnap is a one-time purchase. You own it. Future updates are included.

How do I rename old receipts after changing the filename pattern?

Settings → File Naming → change the preset → tap Yes, rename existing when prompted. ReceiptSnap will run through your archive and re-name every file using the new pattern. An audit log is saved alongside your receipts so you can see exactly what was renamed.

Can I write my own filename pattern?

Yes. Settings → File Naming → choose Custom → use tokens like {date}, {vendor}, {amount}, {currency}, {category} in the order you want. The preview updates live.

What about iPad?

The app supports iPad. If you have any feedback on the iPad layout, email us — iPhone is currently the primary surface.

I lost my data after reinstalling. Can you help?

If you deleted the app, iOS removed its data. The only way to recover is from an iCloud or Finder/iTunes backup taken before the deletion. Because we don't have a server, we can't restore your archive remotely — that's the trade-off for keeping everything private.

Is there a Mac, Android, or web version?

Not at this time. iPhone (and iPad) only.

Reporting a bug

Email ben.lewis@roamhpu.co with:

What you were doing when it happened.
What you expected to happen.
What actually happened.
Your iOS version and iPhone model (Settings → General → About).
The ReceiptSnap version (Settings → File Naming → bottom of the page, when implemented; otherwise just say "latest").

If a particular receipt is mis-parsed, attach the image (or a redacted copy). We treat every report as a chance to make the OCR smarter.
